Imerja prepares to deliver secure mobile environment to government

Imerja has been awarded a contract to develop a mobile working environment (including mobile technology) for use by the Cabinet Office e-Delivery Team.

The pilot project named eBuild will see the development of a core applications infrastructure consisting of email and collaborative working tools from Microsoft and the development of a Secure Mobile Endpoint, or hardened laptop, for use by e-Delivery Team personnel when working away from their Warrington or Whitehall offices.

The Electronic Delivery Team (eDT) is a constituent department within the eGovernment Unit (eGU) within Cabinet Office. The primary purpose of eDT is to manage the ongong development and expansion of the Government Gateway which is used for authentication ofor some 125 of government services including Inland Revenue Tax returns.

Managed by Imerja the solution will be built on Dell Hardware and utilise Microsoft collaboration tools and software from leading security vendors such as Check Point, RSA and SecureWave.

During the development of the concept Imerja and eDT worked hard to find the balance between usability and security and will use the pilot to refine this further so as the solution best fits the business and the commercial data it protects.

It is anticipated that in building the pilot infrastructure on government ‘approved’ hardware and software the final solution will achieve suitable accreditation for connectivity to the Government Secure Intranet (GSI) and in the carrying of protectively marked data.

The pilot project is anticipated to run until March 2008 during which eDT will determine its effectiveness and measure the benefits the mobile working environment has brought to the team.
