Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust
Chelsea & Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated acute teaching hospital serving 750,000 people and provide specialist healthcare services to those living in the area.
The Trust’s corporate network is accessed by its 2,200 employees, and other NHS organisations. Imerja has worked as a strategic partner with the Trust since 2005 and has been responsible for various projects including the delivery of network hardware and support services, upgrading its security infrastructure and providing comprehensive monitoring and management of its estate including on-site engineer presence.
Through its engagement Imerja has gained extensive experience in delivering high calibre services within a critical healthcare environment, as well as an excellent understanding of the Trust’s technical infrastructure.
In continuing to meet the national agenda for Modernisation within the NHS, the Trust needed to deliver an increasing number of applications across the organisation, whilst ensuring high service levels were maintained for its users at all times. Lacking the capacity to deliver new applications, the network needed to be upgraded to provide more host connections for servers and other infrastructure devices.
Chelsea and Westminster also wanted to outsource the monitoring and management of the equipment so they could keep internal staff and resources focused on other important day to day business activities, including the delivery of specific projects and general strategic development to ensure it continues to meet the Trust’s changing IT requirements.
An existing provider of infrastructure support and managed services, Imerja was selected to implement an important LAN upgrade to support the delivery of new applications and provide greater resilience across the network.
With an Extreme based LAN already in place, Imerja recommended to upgrade to Extreme Networks Summit 88xx infrastructure providing a significant increase in capacity and a greater level of resilience.
The equipment is fully monitored, managed and maintained by Imerja from its dedicated 24x7 service centre. This provides Chelsea and Westminster further confidence that should an issue arise, Imerja can initiate remote investigation and then agree appropriate action with the Trust.
The service includes regular management reporting on service delivery, including moves, adds and changes, incidents, network statistics and capacity planning.
Imerja also provides the Trust with on-site engineer support as and when required, which also ensures that engineers remain up to date with the developments within the Trust.
The new infrastructure enables the Trust to easily implement future upgrades, facilitating the future development of critical services across the Trust.
The maintenance, monitoring and managed services are expected to save the Trust in excess of 20 per cent per annum with no impact to the current service levels. Combined with its close working collaboration with the Trust in supporting ongoing business initiatives, Imerja is well placed to provide the Trust with projects in the future.
“A flexible approach in implementing the upgrade was paramount for the Trust given the day to day operational pressures and the need for service continuity – Imerja has proven time and again that it can deliver in this environment”
