UK Commission for Employment and Skills
The UK talentmap, operated by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), is a framework to help employers identify and easily locate the appropriate education, skills and employment service most relevant to their particular needs and was first conceived in response to the challenges set out in the Leitch Report.
In 2008 the talentmap concept was endorsed by Gordon Brown and ministers who subsequent agreed to support the next phase of development work. Talent Map will offer a simple framework for creating a skills development plan and an interactive web-tool, able to draw intelligently from a wide range of databases.
In order to deliver the talentmap tool the UKCES needed to identify a suitable hosting environment that would provide a secure and high availability platform, with a high degree of service and support to ensure the integrity of the solution for this phase of the project.
Network21 is an experienced and innovative group of small companies and individuals who have a complementary set of skills and the ability to act in an agile and responsive manner. The consortium secured the significant and high profile marketing and communications project for the UK talentmap Phase 3 for the UKCES, deemed critical in helping a successful progression of UK talentmap and the deployment of the ‘talentplan’ toolkit. To undertake this project, Network 21 assembled key partner organisations: Clicks and Links Ltd (for technical delivery and project assurance); Imerja Limited (resilient technical infrastructure and secure managed hosting); and ICE Ltd (marketing and communications).
In support of the government backed application Imerja was asked to provide a complex hosting service for the Talentmap website, delivering a high-availability and secure web and database platform and providing an on-going service wrap from its ISO accredited complex hosting suite located in Hertfordshire,
Hosting the website within Imerja’s dedicated data centre facility provided a fully resilient environment that was monitored around the clock by Imerja’s in house 24x7 NOC. Flexibility in the implementation and delivery of the infrastructure ensured milestones were met and the project delivered on time.
During its development the structure and language of the talentmap framework was tested with hundreds of employers across the public and private sectors to ensure that it reflects business priorities in a language that is understood by UK businesses.
“Imerja was chosen for several reasons including its technical ability and agility, working to very tight timescales the solution was available to the development team with 2 weeks from order placement allowing website and database development to commence, and key project milestones to be met.”
