As organisations of all sizes and sectors are constantly challenged with a barrage of new compliance requirements, and with budget cuts affecting all sectors, organisations may struggle to achieve such high expectations with the resources available.

Compliance standards have tightened, recommended practices have become mandatory requirements, and the cost for being non-compliant has also increased with higher financial penalties of up to £150,000 being awarded by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), Financial Services Authority (FSA) and other agencies.

In partnership with leading network security provider, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd, Imerja has released a practical guide on achieving compliance with limited resources through smarter working and outsourcing.

Services include hosting, telecoms, managed services and leading software blade technology from Check Point.

Report in CRN this week, Imerja has appointed a new non-exec to strengthen its board and support future growth.

Simon Beard, has been appointed to help Imerja achieve its 40 per cent growth target for its managed service offering. His CV includes the role of chief finance officer at Preston North End Football Club and a major role in the transformation and sale of Paramount Foods.

Imerja recently expanded its managed services capability with new facilities at its head office in Bolton, using grant funding from the North West Development Agency (NWDA) and help from the government-based Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme from RBS. Earlier this year the VAR also launched its m|four services framework.

Ian Jackson, managing director of Imerja, said: “Imerja has gone from strength to strength in its six year history, and the NWDA’s grant has provided a considerable boost to the business at a critical time in our growth. However, we do not want to rest on our laurels – it is important that we build on this investment and now grow this area of the business aggressively.”

“We are very optimistic about the next 12 to 36 months,” he added. “Using Simon’s expertise we will push our managed service offering and the business as a whole to the next level of growth and profitability. We also plan to invest heavily in our sales and engineering teams and we are also considering acquisition opportunities.”

Beard said: “Imerja is a young and dynamic business and I am looking forward to channelling the energy of the board and, indeed, the whole company, to bring both financial success and increased market presence for the business.”

In last month’s blog entry ‘A third of UK employees use personal devices in the workplace’ highlighted that over 95% of workers used a personal PC, mobile phone or other mobile device for work use. With the 24×7 nature of business today and the rise of virtualised desktops, it is not surprising that employees want to have a say in the type of technology they use for their working day. In fact, a new Unisys survey of 141 information workers found that 75 percent are willing to pay a portion of the cost for productivity-enhancing technology for work if they could choose it themselves. This presents an opportunity to organisations to reduce their business costs whilst empowering their employees with the choice to select and pay for technologies that they are comfortable with in their personal lives.

For organisations who are considering taking this route, the same level of security must be witheld on personal devices so as not to put company information at risk. With Imerja mobile services, Imerja can deploy a secure environment onto anymobile phone, even one that is owned by the individual. Organisations can offer employees a mobile phone allowance rather than providing company mobile telephones, benefitting both the organisation and its employees by reducing overall costs to the business whilst enabling employees to have their own choice of handset. Security benefits include the development of bespoke business applications which allow users access to relevant information in a secure environment, ensuring that information is kept secure at all times and confidentiality is maintained. If a mobile phone is lost, the applications and data can be wiped remotely without compromise to whatever else may be on the phone.
