In a packed venue at the Bolton Reebok Stadium, Imerja was delighted to be named as SME of the Year at the Bolton & Bury Business Awards for 2008.

The SME category was the most contested of all the awards at this year’s event, with close to 40 nominations being submitted. The final shortlist included three successful and locally based IT businesses, which is a sign in itself of the opportunities the region has to offer business in terms of the underlying infrastructure and also the availability of locally based skills and expertise to support sustainable growth in an increasingly hi-tech world.

Imerja’s Managing Director, Ian Jackson commented after receiving the award “I am really proud of our achievement – winning this award is testament to the commitment and efforts of everyone in the business. Winning will undoubtedly raise our profile as a leading Lancashire business, helping to attract new customers as we continue to invest in our development in the region and attract local talent to underpin our growth.”

Imerja was delighted to be announced the winner of the Computer Weekly Award for Best Places to Work in IT in the category of IT Services including Outsource Providers.

The annual Award recognises organisations that have placed themselves at the forefront of best practice in the work place, focused on developing a positive working environment, ensuring continued professional development, taking practical steps towards enabling employees to achieve a work/life balance that suits them, and demonstrating a total commitment to being an equal opportunities employer.

This year’s Awards ceremony was held on March 1st at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London, attended by representatives from over 30 shortlisted companies across all sectors. As a relatively young company entered in the category for IT Services including Outsource Providers, Imerja was pitched against strong competition from well established organisations. The independent panel of judges included Imerja in the final shortlist based on their review of the company’s overall benefits package, HR and training, initiatives, policies, facilities and general approach to developing a positive working environment. Their decision to make the award to Imerja was very welcome public recognition of the organisation’s maturity and its approach to recruiting and retaining its staff.

It is very satisfying to see Imerja being publicly acknowledged in this way” commented Ian Jackson, Managing Director of Imerja, on collecting the award, “We have never made a secret of the fact that our staff are our most valuable asset and from the outset we wanted to ensure the business provided the best environment for everyone – receiving this award reconfirms this is the right approach, and one we are committed to develop and improve as we continue to grow as a company.”

The independent panel of judges for this year’s awards included representatives from the British Computer Society, IBM Computer Users Association, The Corporate IT Forum, Centre of Computing and Social Responsibility, Institute of Directors and the Oracle User Group.
